WHO country cooperation strategy Democratic People’s Republic of Korea: 2014-2019

Abstract

This Country Cooperation Strategy (‎CCS)‎ is a corporate document setting forth a medium-termvision of the World Health Organization's effort to support health development in DPR Korea.It is based on the analysis of the health situation in the country, health policies and programmesof the Ministry of Public Health, the work of other health development partners in the country,and also the work of WHO. The Strategic Agenda outlined in the document presents theStrategic Priorities, Strategic Focus Areas and Strategic Approaches that WHO can mosteffectively implement to support health development.The five Strategic Agendas with the five Strategic Priorities deal with the challenges ofnoncommunicable diseases and their modifiable risk factors; women's and children's health toreduce vulnerability and promote disaster risk reduction; communicable diseases; healthsystems strengthening and ensuring WHO country presence to support sustainable nationalhealth development.The final section of this document deals with matters related to implementing theStrategic Agenda in DPR Korea and its implications on the Secretariat, i.e. WHO. These include,among others, emphasis on technical support; involvement with the Ministry of Health andpartners as necessary; resource mobilization; and plans to update and evaluate the CCS.
