Description
Ancient records show that 18 hospitals were established in different parts of Sri Lanka in the second century BC. This tradition of actively caring for the needy, the poor and the sick was kept alive by successive rulers. While shaping the national health system, modern Sri Lanka was guided by the concept of the welfare state.
