Abstract
This Annual Report of the Regional Director describes the work of the World Health Organization in the South-East Asia Region from 1 January to 31 December 2022. It highlights the public health achievements in the Region, the challenges faced, and WHO’s contribution towards achieving the Organization’s strategic objectives through collaborative activity with Member States, partners and stakeholders during the year. It also details the progress made with the Regional Flagship Priority Programmes and in the quest to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 in the Region, under the leadership of the Regional Director, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh. Separate chapters enumerate the public health developments in each of the 11 Member States as well as the progress made with the eight Flagship Priorities envisaged by the Regional Director.Like 2021, the year 2022 also witnessed unrelenting efforts by WHO and Member States towards preventing and limiting the transmission of COVID-19 and implementing concerted vaccination drives. Efforts were also made to resume all routine immunization services that were disrupted by the pandemic. WHO actively collaborated with ministries of health, UN Specialized Agencies, stakeholders and partners in moving equipment, drugs and necessary items to save lives and provide care. This report will be useful for all those interested in the health and well-being of the more than 1.8 billion people of the Region.
