Abstract
The honourable Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, H.E. Mr Budi G. Sadikin,vide letter dated 3 June 2024 addressed to the Director-General of the World HealthOrganization, had conveyed the request of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia totransfer its membership of the Organization from the WHO South-East Asia Region to theWestern Pacific Region.This Working Paper outlines the process to be followed for such requests by aMember State for reassignment from one region to another, warranting examination by therespective Regional Committees and submission to the World Health Assembly for itsconsideration.This agenda item was presented to the High-Level Preparatory Meeting held in NewDelhi on 2–4 September 2024 for its consideration. The HLP Meeting perused the item andrecommended the following:Actions by WHO:(1) Present the proposal for discussion and deliberation by Member States of theSouth-East Asia Region at the Seventy-seventh Session of the RegionalCommittee.(2) The recommendations of the Regional Committee and the correspondingdecision will be documented in the Regional Committee report and madeavailable for discussions by the Regional Committee of the Western Pacific in2024 and then for the consideration of the Seventy-eighth World HealthAssembly in Geneva in May 2025.The Working Paper along with the HLP Meeting recommendations are placed beforethe Seventy-seventh Session of the WHO Regional Committee for South-East Asia for itsreview and decision, as appropriate.
